Hi, my name is Deacon Hilts. My family and I moved to Marathon nearly 25 years ago. We immediately felt welcomed and part of the community. Our two daughters attended St. Mary’s and both became teachers, one even taught here for a short time. Our daughters are both married and we have been blessed with five grandchildren. My wife and I live on a small farm south of town where we rotationally graze beef cattle. We are in the process of transitioning the farm to our daughter and son-in-law.
I have had a varied career path, having worked in banking, auditing, and most of my career in law enforcement, retiring from the Wausau Police Department. I am a member of the local fire department, and I am a military veteran.
I am a lifelong Catholic and attended Loyola University of Chicago where I met my wife, Michelle. I have worked in various ministries throughout my diaconate career. Most recently, I was the interim principal here at St. Mary's for the 23-24 school year. As the chaplain, I hope to be a spiritual guide for our students, staff and faculty. We are all made in the image and likeness of God and God is love. So, we are to love another, wanting what is best for others. Our ultimate goal is to spend eternity in heaven with God. Scripture tells us heaven is beyond our imaginations! Everyone in heaven is a saint. Therefore, we are STRIVING FOR SAINTHOOD.
